What is a HERS Index score?
As the industry standard for measuring a home s energy efficiency, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index scores a home based on comprehensive software modeling and in person testing. The lower the score, the more efficient the home.
What is ENERGY STAR certification?
ENERGY STAR homes are built to meet the highest U.S. Environmental Protection Agency energy efficiency guidelines and include the latest energy saving equipment and features. Rebates are paid based on achieving ENERGY STAR certification and a given home s Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index score

New Homes Program Updates
For participants who are not already aware, we'd like to share some exciting information about the Inflation Reduction Act, Section 45L Tax Credit. The 45L tax credit, $2,500, has been updated and extended for homes and units acquired on or after January 1, 2023 through 2032. The base level tax credit will be tied to the ENERGY STAR certification for single-family homes. This tax credit can help builders offset the cost of upgrades even further. Please speak with your tax advisor about any tax credits you plan to claim.
Any homes with HERS Ratings on or after January 1, 2022 will follow the new 2022 rebate structure. Stay tuned for 2022 rebate information.
